There are other games out there with a similar feel, too. Here’s our list of the best games like Slay the Spire.

Guild of Dungeoneering Gameplay

Guild of Dungeoneering is a deck-building, turn-based dungeon crawler that has a charming aesthetic and quirky characters.

Developed by Gabmbrinous, this indie roguelike has gained a cult following since it was first released, with many praising its innovative approach to the deck-building genre. In Guild of Dungeoneering, the game doesn’t procedurally generate the run before you start. Instead, YOU build the dungeon around the character you are facing. This may sound strange, and it does take a while to get used to, but the game seems to strike the perfect balance of fun and challenging that will leave you wanting more.

With a number of different classes to choose from (each of them unique), various skill trees to work through, and a humorous tone that ensures the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, Guild of Dungeoneering is easily one of the best games like Slay the Spire out there right now.

Download Guild of Dungeoneering on Steam.

Ascension Deckbuilding Game War of Shadows

Ascension: Deckbuilding Game is a cross platform multiplayer card game that can be played alone or with friends. Developed by Playdek Inc, Ascension’s main draw is the impressive and unique art style of the cards, of which there are over 300.

Those who are familiar with Dominion will pick up the rules and the game style with ease. You start with a deck of basic cards that are exchanged for currency which, in turn, is used to purchase more powerful cards to add to your deck.

Ascension is a similar game to Slay the Spire in the sense that you have to be mindful of which cards you are picking up. It is easy to litter your deck with weak meaningless cards that will be drawn all too often, and instead you must select your cards carefully in order to suit the scenario you find yourself in.

If you value replayability, Ascension could be the one for you to try.

Download Ascension on Steam.

The Binding of Isaac Gameplay

The Binding of Isaac is one of my favorite games of all time, and a regular feature here in the Blog of Games articles. The only reason this isn’t higher in this specific list is that, although it is a dungeon crawler, it doesn’t have the deckbuilding aspect that other games like Slay the Spire in this list have.

For me, though, TBOI is equal parts fun, frustrating, whacky, and moreish. You could try experimenting with some of the best Isaac synergies you can find, or tailor your run to the different characters in the game.

Ultimately, if you find yourself defeating Hush and Delirium on the same run, you know you’ve got a powerful build. Whether that is with rapid fire poisonous tears, bountiful bomb upgrades, or an offensive orbital approach, is up to you.

For me, this is THE must play for all dungeon crawler fans. New life will breathed into the game with the release of the Repentance DLC, too.

Play The Binding of Isaac on Steam.

Faster Than Light Spaceship

If you like space strategy games that allow you to upgrade your ship and interact with different alien races, FTL is the game for you.

Captaining your crew is no easy task. You’ll be tasked with managing power distribution, devising appropriate war strategies, and selecting the right weapons in battle.

Enemy encounters take place in the form of text based combat, and your choices can be the difference between life and death for you and your starship. An extra layer of importance is placed on your decisions by the fact that there are no second chances. Once you die, that’s it, meaning that FTL may require a bit of practice before you truly get good at the game.

Either way, it’s certainly one of the best games like Slay the Spire available right now.

Play FTL: Faster Than Light on Steam.

Into the Breach Gameplay

Into the Breach tops our list of the best games like Slay the Spire, and that’s mainly because we feel like more people should know about this game. Made by the same devs as FTL (no, we’re not affiliated!), this game feels like one of the most underappreciated turn-based strategy games out there. It’s simple and engaging, and the gaming mechanics are brilliantly executed, requiring you to take care at every step in order to advance successfully in the game.

Into the Breach requires thought, and the battles may feel like you are in the middle of an intense game of chess at times, but that’s part of the game’s appeal.

It’s not going to win any awards for its graphics, but it doesn’t need to, the quirky and unique graphics will leave you wanting more. It can be extremely challenging and frustrating at times, and equally satisfying and rewarding at other times.

Download Into the Breach on Steam.

Which other games like Slay the Spire do you like?
