That being said, I’ve attempted to put together my favorite 5 characters below.

The main criteria I used to decide which is the best was how fun the character is to play as, but I also factored in the consistency of the character and the replay value. Read on for the best characters in Nuclear Throne!

MORE LIKE THIS

The best Binding of Isaac characters

What are the best synergies in Enter the Gungeon?

5 great games similar to Slay the Spire

5. Fish

Fish – Nucelar Throne

Fish is a great character with a strong passive ability that allows him to get more ammo. With enough practice you can also use the roll to evade enemy attacks, too. In all honesty, though, I usually just use the roll to get around faster.

Perhaps Fish is only in this list for nostalgic reasons, as I played Nuclear Throne for a long time with Fish before even trying any other characters. But even with that in mind, Fish is one of the best Nuclear Throne characters for beginners, largely due to the relative ease of use. It is rare that you’ll get an OP Fish run, though, unfortunately.

4. Crystal

Crystal – Nucelar Throne

Crystal is a great character for beginners to the game. She has good HP and her shield is good at keeping you safe in lieu of having a melee weapon. When you factor in the Throne Butt, which augments the shield and allows for teleportation, she easily becomes one of the best Nuclear Throne characters.

When I first started playing Nuclear Throne, I always got far with Crystal due to her defensive prowess and extra HP. But I soon realised that using Crystal was actually hindering my progress with other characters. Getting used to defending with her shield made me lose the ability to dodge bullets with other characters.

So, whilst I’d certainly recommend Crystal if you’re starting out, don’t get too comfortable with her and get used to bad habits, it could harm you long-term.

3. Robot

Robot – Nuclear Throne

A lot of people don’t like using Robot, but for me it has led to some of the most enjoyable runs I’ve ever had in the game. Plus, it’s a Robot!

Granted, it takes a bit of time to get used to playing as him, but once you do he is easily one of the best characters in Nuclear Throne. As a tip for new Robot users, make sure you eat everything that you carry on with you and take full advantage of his active item.

Maybe I’ve just got lucky with my Robot runs, as many see the Robot as a boring character who, due to the lack of combat abilities, grows dull fast. Yet, the combination of strong defense and offense, plus the potential to find good weapons early, easily make Robot one of the best Nuclear Throne characters for me.

2. Horror

Horror – Nuclear Throne

9 times out of 10, if you ask the average Nuclear Thrones player to rank their favorite character, Horror would be in the top 5. It’s easy to see why, too, Horror has the potential to be OP.

First off, having the option off an extra mutation at each level up can turn a weak or average build into a strong one fast. But if that’s not enough, Horror has some of the best Ultra Mutations in the game, and his Rad-Beam can get you out of some tricky situations, too.

All in all, Horror is a very strong character and there are a number of different approaches you can take as him. Because of this, I’d easily put Horror up there as one of the best Nuclear Throne characters.

1. Y.V. (Yung Venuz)

Yung Venuz – Nuclear Throne

I’ve had so much fun playing as Yung Venuz that I have absolutely no regrets about putting him at the top of the best Nuclear Throne characters. I don’t think I’ll be the only one, too.

Shooting faster really does make that much of a difference for me, and I never get bored as playing as Y.V.

There’s not really much extra to add here, Yung Venuz does all the talking himself, if you haven’t yet tried the character, get out there and do it, you won’t regret it.

Get in Touch

Do you agree with our list of the best Nuclear Throne characters?
